When I had the time a while back, I used to love to watch Queer Eye for the Straight guy reality television series that was shown on Bravo cable channel. On the show the term metro-sexual was thrown around a lot, and I guess I never paid that much attention to until I met my sister’s boyfriend. I recently went on a cruise with them, and honestly the man had more mirror time, than my sister and I combined. Honestly he is a hot guy, and it shows that he cares about his looks, but I wondered if he was normal? Is he too preoccupied with his grooming?
Well, according to some statistics he is normal!
The male grooming industry has developed into a huge booming business over recent years. It was not that long ago that a beauty routine for a man was, jumping in the shower, a quick shave, and a splash of cologne and he was good to go. However, things are starting to change fast, and for the most part men are really into this new grooming routine, and companies are raking in the dollars.
Perhaps we have the many high profile male celebrities to thank for this increase personal care, but more men are now admitting that they use beauty products to keep themselves looking sexy. My nail salon has a least a couple of men coming in to have manicures and pedicures when I’m having my nails done. It used to be a little shocking , but more and more men are beginning to accept that they too could stand to benefit from a little bit of pampering. Statistics show an 800 percent increase in male grooming products over the last 7 years. Men who might previously have laughed at the idea of manicures, and moisturizing facial products are digging down into their pockets to shell out for services and male grooming products.
The stigma attached to men paying attention to their appearance is shifting thanks to popular celebrities like David Beckham putting their names behind these products and openly admitting that they use them regularly. The fact that these celebrities are not just actors or models but footballers and sports stars as well makes these products more accessible to a lot of men who look up to them and think that if their favorite footballers are doing it, it must be a good idea.
Another area where men are becoming more particular is their body hair. Body hair on men, or hairy men have never been really popular with the ladies, but shaving your body is time consuming, and can cause ingrown hairs, folliculits, and it is very uncomfortably itchy when the hair starts to grows back in.
However, thanks to lasers hair removal these problems can be avoided all together. Laser hair removal works on all areas of the body, and with the new technology and cool tip technology it is virtually painless.
